Silver and Gold Should Be A Part Of Every Portfolio | Designer ...

Gold and silver have already been exchanged as monetary metals for centuries, and similar to other valuable metals, gold and silver might be utilised as an investment. When investing in gold and silver your technique really should often flow together with the main trend. An uptrend will be a bull market place, as well as a main downtrend could be the bear market place.Within the final century, silver?s monetary worth outperformed gold?s worth by a wide margin because it has all through background.Ever considering that Roman instances, governments happen to be setting a gold/silver price tag ratio; likewise, the U.S. gov?t passed a law fixing the gold/silver value ratio at 15:1, in 1792. Even so, the typical price tag ratio throughout the 20th century was 47:1.This write-up will show you some simple methods for investing in gold and silver according to the major trend as well as the gold/silver price tag ratio.

Monetary demand will be the driving force behind silver and gold rates. It?s not basic demand as some investors would have you think.Silver has long been systematically demonetized more than the final 200 years; consequently, the silver market place features a considerably smaller sized worth than the gold market place. The silver market place is estimated at $15.two billion per year, and this tends to make it attainable to get a huge trader to single-handedly influence the industry. This has been completed many instances within the final 30 years by traders for example Warren Buffett and Jp Morgan Chase. Even though this report just isn?t geared towards such a sizable investors, we wanted to show how simply an investment technique may be derailed.
The traders and investors, who?re investing in gold and silver, are typically utilizing the valuable metals as a hedge against inflation, currency devaluation, war, or government deficits. Because we understand that silver is going to rise quicker than gold, naturally, we need to personal a lot more silver and gold. We also wish to physically personal the gold and silver, not paper cash.Making use of what investors call arbitrage, which can be ?the simultaneous obtain and selling of an asset as a way to profit from a differential inside the cost.? When gold is inexpensive to silver, the silver/gold ratio is low, you are going to acquire gold with silver. When silver is low cost to gold, the silver/gold ratio is high, you may get silver with gold. This method operates for big investors or little.

An additional method to invest in gold and silver is via coins. Bullion coins are purchased by their fine weight, along with the premium tacked on by provide and demand. These coins usually are not to become confused with numismatic gold and silver coins that are priced by rarity and situation. Bullion coins has to be handled with extreme care due to the softness with the metal.

It is possible to also acquire gold and silver by way of exchange-traded items or ETP?s. Exchange-traded Funds, or ETF?s, are probably the most typical ETP?s, and are traded just like shares of stock on an exchange. ETF?s are an open finish investment organization, and they don?t sell shares straight to investors. ETF?s shares are issued in ?creation units? that are massive blocks of 50,000 shares. The shares can only be sold in two techniques. The investors can sell the person shares to other investors, or back towards the ETF. This kind of exchange alleviates the hassle of trading in bars of valuable metal, along with the security danger that goes together with it.

Though there are various other methods and methods of investing in silver and gold, we?ve located the above approach to function the very best in all various situations and markets.

With more couples divorcing amicably, splitting up can mean the start of a beautiful friendship?with your ex. Ruth Tierney talks to two couples who are closer now they?re apart

Friends with Your Ex

Jo Gould, 43, a midwife from Eastbourne, and Damon Webb, 45, an architect from Brighton, have seen their post-divorce relationship thaw from frosty to friendly

Divorce doesn?t have to be divisive. Just look at Elizabeth Hurley, who?s not only on fond terms with longtime ex Hugh Grant, but also with recently divorced husband Arun Nayar. ?Arun and I are still best friends ? I?m too lazy to fight,? she told YOU. Then there?s Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York, who have lived together in Royal Lodge, Windsor, for the past four years despite divorcing 16 years ago. And Sadie Frost?s plus-one at Kate Moss?s wedding last year was ex-hubby Jude Law.

Pally exes are certainly more visible than they were a generation ago, and the reasons for this are twofold. From a pragmatic standpoint, we have the legal system to thank. Most family lawyers in the UK are now part of an organisation called Resolution, whose code of practice is to help clients through the divorce process in an amicable way. ?We?re seeing a huge increase in divorcing couples opting for collaborative law or mediation,? explains Mahie Abey, family solicitor and co-founder of intelligentdivorce.co.uk, ?which avoid confrontation ? and the courts ? by solving matters through discussion. If you can avoid undue amounts of friction during the divorce, it makes civilised communication and friendship more likely afterwards.? In fact, lawyers even prescribe therapy in some cases. ?I give my clients a list of counsellors if I think they will benefit. There are certain emotions, such as grief and anger, that a client needs help to deal with in order to have a good relationship with their ex,? says Abey.

Better (rather than bitter) divorce proceedings may go some way to explaining the increase,
but psychotherapist Christine Webber (christinewebber.com) has another theory. ?Younger couples are leading the trend for this kind of relationship. The 50-plus generation are less likely to have friendships with the opposite sex in general. Not only were single-sex schools more common when they were growing up, but few experienced university life and the freedom of cohabitation in student housing. Lots of couples today, on the other hand, meet when they?re sharing student accommodation, and fall from friendship into a relationship. When they split up, the friendship is still there.?

A quick poll at YOU HQ revealed that most of us found the concept of post-divorce pals a little disconcerting. After all, if you get on so well, why don?t you just stay married? ?Good question, and the answer I?d have to give is sex ? or lack of it,? says psychotherapist Paula Hall. ?Many couples find they get on as friends, but not as lovers. People often leave a long-term relationship because they feel they?re being short-changed in one area, and mostly that?s their sex life. But they still get on, they still have things in common, which they can hold on to beyond the divorce.? In fact, if a couple have shared a passionate relationship it?s often harder to translate that into a platonic friendship. ?That type of relationship is so incandescent it burns itself out before friendship is an option,? explains Webber.

But surely holding on to your history can stop you moving forward? ?In some cases, it can be liberating to draw a line under the past,? agrees Webber. Whatever path you decide to take, the important thing is to give yourself time to heal. Most experts agree that you should veto all contact with your ex for a few months, so you can wipe the slate clean and start at zero with your new friendship.

Post divorce pals: Jo and Damon help and support each other, but they never talk about their past

Jo I started to question my marriage around the time I trained as a midwife in 1997. Several women separated from their husbands while on that course, probably because it was quite a feminist, empowering environment. It seemed to prompt a rebellion in me. Damon and I were so young when we got together ? I was 18, he was 20, and I already had a baby [Lotte, now 25] from a previous relationship, so we settled down quickly. By the time we got married in 1994, we had two children of our own, Oscar, now 22, and Bella, 18. It?s a clich?, but although I loved Damon, I wasn?t in love with him by that point.

We had a trial separation, during which we had marriage counselling. But it just didn?t feel right to be with him. After living apart for 18 months, I admitted that my feelings for him hadn?t changed. Damon was crushed and relations between us became strained. Because I felt guilty, I wanted to make our divorce as easy as possible. We settled out of court in 2000, with childcare split 50:50. I let him keep the house, while I moved to a flat in the same road.

Damon and I have never hated each other, but it was very frosty between us for at least three years after the divorce. We only spoke about the children and kept that to a minimum. When I met my second husband, Gez, and had two more children ? Mimi, seven, and Noah, five ? it was obvious a chapter had ended, and we?d all moved on enough to have the occasional coffee when Damon came to pick up the children when it was his turn to look after them.

One Christmas Damon dropped by to collect the older children accompanied by a couple of our mutual friends, so I invited everyone in for a drink. The next time Damon came round on his own, Gez and I had a bottle of wine open so I asked if he?d like a glass, and it went from there. Now if we?re throwing a party or barbecue for friends, we invite Damon along. Gez likes Damon and thinks he?s a great dad, so there?s no jealousy there.

We don?t just discuss the children any more. We?re having an extension on our kitchen built
right now, and I asked Damon to do the architectural plans for it. When we met for lunch to discuss it, we had such a laugh because we still share the same sense of humour. When I set up my own business as a hypnobirthing coach (thehypnobirthingclinic.co.uk), I turned to Damon for advice about the design of the website.

But there are boundaries. When Damon is dating someone I don?t chat to him for long if he?s with her because I don?t want her to feel threatened. Having said that, I?ve always got on with Damon?s partners. A couple of years ago, Damon phoned to ask if Gez, who?s a doctor, knew anything about dislocated knees because his girlfriend had hurt hers while trying to teach Bella to do the splits! While Gez clicked her knee back into place, I gave her gas and air (which I had to hand as a community midwife)! I even set Damon up with a colleague of mine once, and they stayed together for nine months.

I don?t think about our past, and we don?t? discuss it. Enough time has passed since we were intimately involved with each other for us to forget all that. What has endured are the good things, such as the friendship we had, and the fact we?re caring parents.

I also have a good relationship with Damon?s parents. They were really upset when we split up, but we?ve remained friends and I see them for lunch and invite them for dinner every Christmas. They buy presents for my little ones, and held Bella?s 18th birthday party in their garden, which Gez and I attended. Damon is amused by Mimi and Noah because they?re so naughty, but he doesn?t spend much time with them. They like him though because they?re astute judges of character and know he?s a good person. They?re at the age where they?re trying to puzzle out our relationship. I?ll always be friends with Damon, not just because of the children, but because we genuinely like each other. It?s what made us work in the first place.

Damon There was a certain amount of teeth-gritting between Jo and I after we split up, but we didn?t really argue. I didn?t have the energy for animosity because we were sharing the childcare so I was exhausted. I admit to feeling pangs of jealousy when I saw Jo out with a new partner not long after the divorce. But those feelings fade over time, and it helped when I found a new girlfriend around six months later. My partners have never had a problem with Jo, mainly because I?ve explained I?m friends with her from the start rather than being furtive about it.

When the children were younger we saw each other three times a week, but now I pop over for coffee or wine once or twice a month. We chat about mutual friends and the children mainly. None of our pals took sides, but after the divorce they naturally drifted towards one or the other of us, so it?s nice to hear what they?re up to. The children have never been confused by our friendship ? in fact, they?ve been pretty unfazed by the divorce. They seem to enjoy having two bases, and double the attention.

I think Jo and I would still be friends even if we didn?t have children together. I keep in touch with most of my exes, which some people find strange. But it strikes me as a real shame if that kind of bond is thrown away and you never see each other again when a relationship ends. You wouldn?t dump any other type of friend in that way. Jo and I may have different lives now, but we?re still the same people.

Exes Suzy Miller, 48, an events organiser, and Chris Taylor, 48, a production manager, live on the same street in Forest Row, East Sussex, and see each other for drinks, dinner or DIY every other day

Suzy Since splitting up in 2003, Chris and I have had to start afresh, building a new relationship rather than continuing with the old one. That had broken down, and all trust had gone after Chris declared, out of the blue, that he didn?t love me, in fact never had, despite our ten years and three children together. I hadn?t seen it coming because there had been no rows, and it took at least a year for us to go from being civil to friendly. There were teething troubles, and I needed to set boundaries. Once Chris was narky with me on the phone, so I contacted BT and blocked his calls. He?s been polite ever since!

There were two catalysts involved in the formation of the good friendship we have now. The first was a life-coaching seminar I attended in London, where I literally walked over hot coals to realise I could do anything. I felt more confident, and that made it easier to move beyond blame. The second was Chris getting married in 2007 to Marilyn, who was 19 at the time. People couldn?t understand why I was fine with it, but Chris was easier to deal with because Marilyn makes him happy. Our friendship evolved over cups of coffee when he picks up the children ? Cydney, now 15, Joseph, 13, and Henry, ten. I also began having drinks with Marilyn, who helped me see Chris?s good qualities, such as his strength and reliability.

We actually get on far better now than we ever did when we were together. We live a five-minute walk away and Chris has a key to my house, so I see him around four times a week. Sometimes I?ll come home from work and he?ll be there cooking supper. He?ll flop on the sofa and talk about his work worries, but when I start talking about mine, he glazes over. That used to bug me, but now I just think, ?Bless him.? You don?t have such high expectations of a friend as you do of a partner. We even share a dog! When Marilyn and Chris bought Cydney a rescue dog, I said they had to help look after it as I?m busy with three children and my own business organising divorce shows (startingovershow.co.uk). Chris popped round recently to find Cydney and I hollering at each other, so he went upstairs to reprimand her then came downstairs to comfort me. ?I only came over to walk the dog,? he said, and I burst out laughing.

When you have loved someone, that connection never goes away. I?ll always care about Chris, but there?s nothing romantic between us. I?ve changed, and the kind of man I want now is totally different from Chris. I?d love to meet someone who shares my interest in philosophy, spirituality and the arts. Chris isn?t a ballet kind of man ? he?s far too practical. My last partner got on so well with Chris that he took the photos at Chris and Marilyn?s wedding. But for the moment I?m single. It?s comforting to have that almost-daily connection with Chris, and to know that I can turn to him however big or small the problem.

Suzy Miller with her ex Chris Taylor

Together apart: Suzy and Chris see each other almost daily. ?When you?ve loved someone that connection never goes away,? says Suzy

Chris I can count my true friends on one hand ? and Suzy is one of them. When I walked out on Suzy, I would never have imagined that one day she?d become a best friend. But it makes
sense because she knows me from old. I?m pretty shy around new people, and don?t find it easy to open up.

For the first year, I needed to get my head straight. But meeting Marilyn sorted me out ? she helped me become a nicer person. I was also really impressed by Suzy?s reaction to my new wife. She was really welcoming and friendly to Marilyn ? lots of women wouldn?t be. That made me like Suzy more. We often all get together for Sunday lunch or to walk the dog, which people in the village think is very weird. I guess it is really!

I feel comfortable dropping by unannounced at Suzy?s on my way home from work, and if I?m not in the mood to talk, Suzy?s OK with that. But when I do want to confide in someone, Suzy?s the perfect person because she?s very perceptive. She says what she?s thinking, and I know she?ll be honest with me. Our relationship now is very different from when we were together. There?s no romance, she?s a mate. I still find her infuriating and I wind her up something rotten too, but I honestly think we?ll always be friends.?

The Prince Andrew

Duchess of York

The Duchess of York and Prince Andrew divorced in 1996 after ten years of marriage. Sarah described her ex-husband as ?a great man and a first-rate father and the bestest friend?.

Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall had their marriage annulled in 1999 after nine years. Jerry said, ?He?s a great father and a great friend. Just a lousy husband.?

 Billie Piper

 Chris Evans

Billie Piper and Chris Evans married in 2001 and divorced in 2007. Billie says, ?I?m happy I married Chris and happy we?re now soul mates without being lovers. That?s what I want from Chris ? the ultimate friendship. I don?t feel like I?ve lost anything. I feel like I?ve only gained.?

Ronnie Wood married Jo in January 1985 and they divorced in 2011. Jo has said, ?He is my friend, and I?ll always love Ronnie in the way that he?s the father of my children and we spent so many years together. But he?s off doing his own thing; I don?t often hear from him.?

Max Drummey

 Peaches Geldof

Peaches Geldof, 23, married musician Max Drummey in 2008, splitting up just months later. Peaches said, ?I actually spoke to Max on the phone the other day. He lives really near me in Los Angeles. He?s such a good person as well, so that was not an area where there was any drama.?

Actress Keeley Hawes married Spencer McCallum in 2001, divorcing in 2004. She is now married to actor Matthew Macfadyen. She says, ?I?m not saying that every night of the week me, my husband and ex-husband and our children all sit around together like one happy family. But we do see each other frequently ? we are all friends.?

Why Turning to a Trademark Attorney is Always a Good Idea

If you have something of great value in your possession, then you will want to find ways to keep that item as protected as possible. While there are many physical items that can be protected with safes and vaults there are also some non-tangible items that need protection as well. This includes things like your company name or reputation. Protecting this type of property is a little more complex then putting it in a safe as you would with tangible items. You will need something instead known as a trademark. A trademark is a legal document issued by the federal government that will legally help keep your business name safe and well protected.

Getting a trademark is a very good idea for anyone who has a potentially profitable business. If your name is not trademarked then other companies can use your identity as their own.

This can be problematic for a number of reasons. Mainly, this company can ruin your reputation. If you are a business owner then you know that reputation is of the utmost importance, which is why it is so important that you get a trademark on your company name. In order to get a trademark you will need to submit a detailed application to the federal government requesting permission for a trademark. However, the process takes a great deal of time and a trademark is a serious item and they aren?t given out to every business. This means it takes the federal government a great deal of time to decide whether or not they will issue trademarks for certain names. Many times the government will need to be persuaded on whether or not they should issue a trademark or not. This is where a trademark attorney comes in. There are a number of reasons why when people decide to apply for a trademark they will turn to a trademark attorney to help them.

There are a number of reasons why people will hire trademark attorneys.First a trademark attorney will let you know if you even have a case on your hands and if you have a chance of getting a trademark issued or not.

This is important because there are certain laws in place that may prevent you from getting something trademarked or you could unknowingly be using an already trademarked name.? People also turn to trademark attorneys because they offer sound advice on how to proceed with these cases and can help any company achieve a favorable outcome.

Trademark attorneys are not general attorneys they are highly trained in trademark law and take different courses then general attorneys will. Businesses turn to trademark attorneys because of this experience in trademark litigation. Most business owners do not know about trademark law and with the help of a professional they can quickly and easily get through the process and ensure that their company gets the protection it needs.

Righty pitches into 8th as defending champs beat Miami 4-1

Kyle Lohse delivers a pitch against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.

MIAMI - Kyle Lohse saw all the zeros on the scoreboard. St. Louis teammate David Freese was counting the outs to go. And in the seventh inning, the Miami Marlins knew they still didn't have a hit in their new ballpark.

Lohse finally gave up a single to start the seventh, but he combined with three relievers on a four-hitter and helped the World Series champions open the season with a 4-1 victory Wednesday night.

Lohse led the Cardinals in victories and ERA last year, but he only got the call for opening day because ace Chris Carpenter is sidelined with nerve irritation that has caused weakness in his pitching shoulder.

"Where's Carpenter?" Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said with a laugh. "Lohse threw a tremendous game. He kept our hitters off balance."

With the retractable roof open, the ball didn't seem to carry well in Miami's new home. Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton hit two flies to the warning track, but their new animated home-run sculpture never budged.

"I took advantage of the park a little bit," Lohse said. "It's a good ballpark for a pitcher, obviously. It's pretty hard to get it out."

It was the fourth inning before the Marlins even managed a baserunner. By the time they scored in the eighth, they trailed 4-0.

Lohse was mindful he had a no-hitter going.

"It actually did cross my mind after five," he said. "I looked up and saw a lot of zeros. But I'm not superstitious. I was talking to guys on the bench."

Said Freese: "I was getting the feeling. I was counting the outs. But Kyle will take the outing every day of the week, and so will we."

The crowd of 36,601 included newly retired Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, who quietly rooted for his former team from the press box.

He watched Lohse retire the first 10 batters before hitting Emilio Bonifacio with a pitch. The runner was erased when Hanley Ramirez grounded into a double play.

Newcomer Jose Reyes' leadoff single in the seventh was Miami's first hit.

"Opening day, they throw a no-hitter, that's not going to look too good," Reyes said. "We played with a lot of energy but didn't get what we were looking for, and that was a win."

Omar Infante scored the Marlins' run in the eighth on John Buck's double. Lohse went 7 1-3 innings, allowing only two hits and one run.

Freese, the World Series MVP, had a two-run single in the first inning to give Lohse the cushion he needed. Freese and Rafael Furcal each had three of the Cardinals' 13 hits.

"Packed house. We win. Cool," Freese said. "It doesn't get much better."

Jason Motte earned the save with a one-hit ninth, completing the four-hitter. The Cardinals then gave rookie manager Mike Matheny a water shower to celebrate his first win.

"It means a lot to them, so that means a lot to me," Matheny said.

Things were so bad for Guillen's team that Marlins ace Josh Johnson recorded the ballpark's first strikeout - but as a hitter. Johnson allowed 10 hits and three runs in six innings.

Both teams began the season with a new look. The Marlins, anticipating better attendance and higher revenue in their new home, acquired three All-Stars in an offseason spending spree. The Cardinals, coming off a thrilling late-season charge to the World Series title, lost slugger Albert Pujols to free agency and La Russa to retirement.

La Russa visited with Matheny before the game. Also on hand was baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, who said his reaction to the ballpark was, "Wow."

Among the eye-catching features is the colorful home-run sculpture beyond the center-field wall, but the Marlins failed to activate it, despite Stanton's two deep drives.

"Stanton hit a couple of balls today that are out of just about every park in baseball," Matheny said.

Notes: The Marlins drew 41,237 for last year's home opener, then went on to finish last in the NL in attendance for the seventh consecutive year. ... Before the game, Guillen said Ramirez has a chance to be the NL MVP. ... The only no-hitter on opening day was thrown in 1940 by Hall of Famer Bob Feller for the Cleveland Indians against the Chicago White Sox. ... Lohse pitched five shutout innings in his only other opening-day start, which was in 2008.

Generating first-ever controlled ultrafast radiation using a plasma

ScienceDaily (Apr. 4, 2012) ? To observe ultrarapid phenomena such as the motion of electrons within matter, researchers need sources capable of producing extremely fast and energetic light radiation. Although devices capable of emitting pulses with attosecond (10-18 seconds) precision already exist, many research teams are striving to stretch the boundaries of these pulses' duration and intensity.

A team headed by the Laboratoire d'Optique Appliqu?e (LOA, CNRS/ENSTA-Paristech/Ecole Polytechnique), in collaboration with the CEA and the Laboratoire pour l'Utilisation des Lasers Intenses (CNRS/CEA/Ecole Polytechnique/UPMC), has succeeded for the first time in accelerating and guiding electrons in a plasma in a reproducible manner, using a laser. These electrons excite the plasma, which then emits ultrafast electromagnetic pulses at wavelengths in the extreme ultraviolet. This high energy attosecond radiation could be used to study ultrarapid electronic processes.

This work is published in Nature Physics.

Some events, such as the ionization of an atom or an electron jumping from one excited state to another, occur over typical time scales of the order of an attosecond (a billionth of a billionth of a second). To observe such events directly, light pulses of comparable duration need to be produced in order to acquire a "snapshot" of the evolution of the phenomenon, somewhat like a camera shutter. Until now, there was only one way to obtain such fast pulses, by exciting the electrons of a gas by laser. These electrons then emit a pulse in the extreme ultraviolet (X-UV) domain. However, this method has limitations and, in order to observe certain phenomena, researchers need sources that are even faster and, above all, which have higher energy. This has prompted numerous research teams to study the physics of plasmas, an extremely hot and dense state of matter constituted of ions and electrons.

The team headed by the LOA is the first to have obtained attosecond pulses in the X-UV in a reproducible manner by controlling the excitation of a plasma by electrons accelerated in a laser field. To achieve this feat, the researchers first developed a very efficient laser source, making it possible to obtain illuminations one thousand to ten thousand times those used in gaseous media, and delivering a thousand pulses per second, each lasting around several femtoseconds (10-15 seconds). In addition, this source is phase-stabilized: all the pulses generated are identical. The researchers succeeded in focusing the full luminous intensity of the laser on a spot a little larger than a micron in diameter, on the surface of a silica target. The target matter is thus transformed into a plasma whose density is comparable to that of a solid. The electrons in this plasma are strongly accelerated by the electromagnetic field produced by the laser beam. When they pass through the plasma, they excite a collective motion of charges inside it, thus producing X-UV radiation, which the researchers were able to observe and analyze using a spectrometer.

This work should lead to a high-energy radiation source that physicists and chemists could use to probe electronic processes in matter with attosecond temporal resolution. The research team is now planning to improve its laser source in order to generate even faster radiation at shorter wavelengths (in the X-ray domain). This should be achieved by controlling the motion of electrons, which move at velocities close to the speed of light, in the plasma.

States with the best credit scores

Bill Sikes / AP

By Daniel Bukszpan, cnbc.com

In January 2010, the average credit score in the United States was 692, according to Experian's National Score Index.

Today, it?s between 700 and 710, according to John Ulzheimer, president of consumer education at SmartCredit.com, a credit-monitoring website. In an interview with CNBC.com, he said that reduction of credit-card debt is the main factor behind increased credit scores. ?There?s no doubt,? he said.

If average credit scores are rising because consumers have begun to pay down their credit-card debts, then economic conditions must be improving to some degree. However, this average includes everybody, from the person who just became debt-free to the person who hasn?t made the minimum payment in months.

Just as these people are not all created equal, neither are the states that they call home. As a result, some states will have average credit scores that indicate a rebounding economy, while others will have average credit scores that indicate economic decline.

Mortgage Marvel, a mortgage-shopping website, crunched the numbers from over 330,000 mortgage applications received in 2011 and determined which states had the highest average credit scores.

The results don?t tell the whole story, but they paint a picture of how the states have fared economically, and residents of which states have done the best job of paying their bills.

1. California

Average credit score: 754

The only state on Mortgage Marvel?s list to retain its 2010 standing is California. According to the list, residents of the Golden State have the best credit scores in the country, a status that is unchanged since the previous year.

California?s average credit score is 754, a drop of one point from 2010. However, it still outpaces its nearest competitor, Oregon, by four points.

2. Oregon

Average credit score: 751

Oregon occupied fourth place in 2010. In 2011, it moved up two spots, even though the average credit score went down.

In 2010, the average credit score in Oregon was 751, but it dropped slightly?to 750 in 2011. However, Hawaii and Connecticut both dropped out of their top three 2010 rankings, allowing Oregon to sneak into second place.

3. Wisconsin

Average credit score: 749

The Mortgage Marvel list is made up almost exclusively of states in the Northeast or West. The sole exception is Wisconsin. This Midwestern state rose from its 2010 rank of number five. The average credit score is 749, an increase of two points from 2010.

4. Hawaii

Average credit score: 748

Hawaii is a paradise of beaches, hula dancing and cocktails served in coconut shells. It?s also home to an average credit score of 748.

Hawaii?s 2011 credit score is four points lower than in 2010. This accounts for its drop from the No. 2 spot on Mortgage Marvel?s list.

5. Connecticut

Average credit score: 745

Connecticut stands at a respectable No. 5, a two-notch drop from 2010. The average credit score in the state was 745 in 2011.

The state?s current credit ranking?is the result of a six-point drop from a more impressive score of 751 in 2010. However, it?s still well above the national average.

6. Rhode Island

Average credit score: 745

Rhode Island is the tiny Northeastern state that gave us Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the Farrelly Brothers and Ruth Buzzi. It has an average credit score of 745.

This 2011 credit score is unchanged from 2010. However, due to the reshuffling of other states on the list, Rhode Island?climbed one spot.

7. New Hampshire

Average credit score: 744

New Hampshire?s license plates say ?Live Free or Die,? and accordingly, there?s no sales tax. Still, its residents need to have good credit scores like everyone else, and 2011 saw their average go up from 741 to 744.

In 2010, New Hampshire occupied the No. 9?spot on Mortgage Marvel?s list. The improvement in its average credit score has given it a modest bump to No. 7.

8. Washington

Average credit score: 744

Washington is one of four Western states on this list. Like Maryland, it didn?t make the cut in 2010, ranking at No. 11. However, its average credit score rose from 741 to 744 in 2011, placing it at a respectable 8th place.

9. Massachusetts

Average credit score: 740

Like Maryland, Massachusetts has fared well enough in the last two years to make the list. However, it slipped one notch from its 2010 ranking of number eight. The average credit score in Massachusetts is 740, the same as in Maryland.

10. Maryland

Average credit score: 734

Of all the states in the Mortgage Marvel top 10, Maryland jumped the highest from its 2010 position ??an impressive 12 spots.

While the jump is notable, a closer look shows that it?s not based on a dramatic increase in the state?s average credit score. In 2010, Maryland had a credit score of 734, while in 2011 it rose to 740, an increase of just six points.

Joey BadA$$ Aims For 'Something Greater' On Debut Mixtape

'I'm just stressing myself out trying to do something amazing,' Joey BadA$$ tells Mixtape Daily of his upcoming debut mixtape 1999.
By Rob Markman

Joey BadA$$
Photo: MTV News

Fire Starter: Joey BadA$$
As a youngster, Brooklyn MC Joey BadA$$ was baffled by Nas' 1994 classic Illmatic. The iconic album cover featured a childhood photo of the then 20-year-old God's Son. "I seen him as a kid and I thought he was a kid rapping, I was just confused," Joey told Mixtape Daily. After all, how can a kid that young deliver such impactful and insightful records like "Life's a Bitch" and "The World Is Yours"?

Somewhere along the way, Joey's initial confusion must have led to some sort of inspiration, because at 17 years old, he has already delivered a single that seems to surpass the subject matter of other spitters in his age bracket. The militant-minded "Survival Tactics," borrows its instrumental from the 1998 Styles of Beyond song of the same name. Joey impressively starts out spitting, "N---as don't want war, I'ma Martian with an army of Spartans/ Sparring with a knife in a missile fight."

The track's gritty video shows Joey and his partner-in-rhyme Capital STEEZ marching from their grimey Brooklyn hood to Wall Street while wearing animal masks and army jackets. On March 21, MTV News featured Joey on the Get in the Game segment of "RapFix Live." After previewing a portion of the "Survival Tactics" video, members of Odd Future agreed that Joey "can rap," even if a disruptive Tyler, the Creator downplayed the quality of the visuals. Expecting some pushback from the renegade group, Joey came out of the gate hurling insults at OF producer Left Brain, and Left Brain fired back. The incident was billed as beef on media websites and message boards, but Joey writes it off merely as playful banter. "I felt like that was set up," Joey told MTV News. "I felt like y'all tried to set us up for beef."

Still, it has been all love for Joey, who is currently in his junior year at Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn. Joey BadA$$ says that he's been rapping since the womb and credits his parents' affinity for hip-hop with shaping his musical tastes. "I was 2 years old and I knew the whole Biggie 'Hypnotize' song," he boasted.

Influenced by the likes of the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac, Joey began to take rapping seriously as he got older. Now he is the stand-out among his Progressive Era crew, a collective of 18 rappers, producers, graphic designers and studio engineers. The young man's buzz even caught the attention of Mac Miller, who featured Joey on "America," a track off of his recently released Macadelic mixtape.

All this and Joey hasn't even dropped his first mixtape, though he estimates that 1999 will come shortly. The recent attention has him ready to step up. "Now I feel like I gotta give them something greater," he said. "I'm just stressing myself out trying to do something amazing."

A century on from the sinking of the Titanic, science writer Richard Corfield takes a look at the cascade of events that led to the demise of the "unsinkable" ship, taking into account the maths and physics that played a significant part. His article appears in April's issue of Physics World and online in physicsworld.com, a website of the Institute of Physics.

At 11.40 p.m. on Sunday 14 April 1912 the Titanic, bound from Southampton to New York, struck an iceberg just off the coast of Newfoundland and became fully submerged within three hours, before dropping four kilometres to the bottom of the Atlantic.

There have been many stories recounting why the ship struck the iceberg and why two-thirds of the passengers and crew lost their lives: the lack of lifeboats; the absence of binoculars in the crow's nest; the shortcomings of the radio operator. However, in this article, Corfield takes a more in-depth look at the structural deficiencies of the ship and how these contributed to its demise.

Corfield highlights the work of two metallurgists, Tim Foecke and Jennifer Hooper McCarty, who combined their own analysis with historical records from the shipyard in Belfast where the Titanic was built and found that the rivets that held the ship?s hull together were not uniform in composition or quality and not been inserted in a uniform fashion.

This meant that, in practice, the region of the Titanic's hull that hit the iceberg was substantially weaker than the main body of the ship Foecke and McCarty speculate that the poorer-quality materials were used as a cost-cutting exercise.

As well as the actual make-up of the ship, it also appears that the climate thousands of miles away from where the ship actually sunk may have had a hand in events. At times when the weather is warmer than usual in the Caribbean, the Gulf Stream intersects with the glacier-carrying Labrador Current in the North Atlantic in such a way that icebergs are aligned to form a barrier of ice.

In 1912 the Caribbean experienced an unusually hot summer and so the Gulf Stream was particularly intense; the Titanic hit the iceberg right at the intersection of the Gulf Stream and the Labrador Current.

"No one thing sent the Titanic to the bottom of the North Atlantic. Rather, the ship was ensnared by a perfect storm of circumstances that conspired her to doom," writes Corfield.

How Astrology Influences Your Love Life | California Psychics Blog

April 2, 2012 at 12:00 am By S.K. Smith

Explaining the Sun-Venus Connection

Have you ever noticed that the Sun and Venus are almost always in the same sign ? or at the very least in adjoining signs? That?s because Venus is the closest planet to the Sun, and together they make a big impact on your natal chart. In fact, beyond the sign in which they each reside in your chart, their placement in relation to each other at the time of your birth contributes to the ease (or difficulty) with which you will pursue your own highest good in life, not to mention how that pursuit affects others. In other words, since Venus influences your relationship to love and the Sun presides over your relationship with yourself (ego), it?s via this aspect that these two areas of your life are intertwined.

Sun Conjunct Venus

Lucky you. Your inner and outer drives work in concert, creating harmony in you and around you. You?re easy-going and social, tolerant of others and open about yourself. You feed your ego by drawing people to you, but you?re not one to manipulate people for your own gain. On the down side, you have a tendency to be all sunshine all the time ? on the outside. This is an impulse which can lead to repressed feelings, but stems from the desire to be liked. All in all, not a bad weakness.

Sun Semisquare Venus

Not lacking in confidence as much as they are confused, people with Sun Semisquare Venus may find it difficult to dictate their own paths ? or let other people take the reigns. That?s because, by the very nature of their Sun/Venus aspect, they?re in conflict over whether to take charge or follow in life and in love. Luckily, we all need to do both along the way ? the path is all about give and take. Unfortunately for you, finding this balance can be your whole life?s work.

?To attain the love you want, be prepared to be, or work to become, the type of person you want to attract!? -?Yemaya ext. 5143

Sun Semisextile Venus

For those with Sun semisextile Venus, self-esteem can be especially problematic ? especially in relationships. These conflicted individuals often find their desires go against their point of view of the way things ?should be,? which means subverting other people?s needs or wants in order to achieve their ends? or shying away from pursuing goals altogether. On the upside, you?re adaptable by nature and full of surprises. Work on learning to speak up and go after what you need ? without hurting anyone else in the process.

?Astrology brings so much to the table, it gives you the personality, likes and dislikes of a person. Their nature is uncovered and if it is not a match for you, it can be worked around to make it work.? -?Quinn ext. 5484

Gay Catholic activist dismayed at church campaign | MGN: Miami ...

By admin on March 30, 2012 ? Comments Off

By Timothy McDonald

Updated March 30, 2012 20:22:06

A gay Catholic activist and author says the church should get its own house in order instead of throwing resources at an anti-gay marriage campaign.

Victoria?s Catholic bishops are trying to mobilise their parishioners against the two bills before Federal Parliament that would change the definition of marriage.

The church will circulate 80,000 letters urging Catholics to make their views known on the gay marriage debate.

The Bishop of Sale, Christopher Prowse, says marriage is a sacred institution that government should not tinker with.

?This has served us well for a basis of security and happiness in society,? he said.

?We do feel that the bills before Federal Parliament as the year goes on seek to redefine marriage as we know it and this is a very serious matter for us.?

But his argument has left some gay Catholics unimpressed, including Michael Bernard Kelly.

Mr Kelly is the author of a book about the gay experience within the Christian faith and was the spokesman for the gay Catholic activist group Rainbow Sash.

He says Victoria?s bishops are out of step with most of the Australian population and many Catholics.

?The Catholic hierarchy also has a lot of housekeeping of its own to do in terms of dealing with issues of sexuality and power before it starts trying to tell gay people or society as a whole what it should be doing,? he said.

The bishops say their position implies no lack of respect for people who identify as gay or lesbian, but Mr Kelly says that is disingenuous.

?I think to say on one hand that they respect and love gay and lesbian people, and on the other hand that our relationships potentially damage the institution of marriage and damage society, is really quite offensive,? he said.

And he has described as ?limited? the letter?s assertion that gay marriage is not possible because it separates marriage from its grounding in biology.

?I think it is a very limited view. I mean marriage clearly means a lot of things in contemporary society,? he said.

?The church itself accepts that couples who are infertile or who are very elderly can still be married and have loving sex.

?If that is the case, why can?t two women who love one another marry have loving sex?

?This idea that somehow because this bit fits there in a man and a woman, that somehow that is what should determine how society constructs its legal recognition of marriage, I think is almost infantile.

?We have to look beyond that to the quality of relationships.?

Own terms

Mr Kelly says he accepts that all religions have the right to offer sacraments and rituals on their own terms.

?I think there is no question that government should not in any sense be requiring any religious body to conduct any form of religious ritual that they don?t believe they should conduct, including same-sex marriage,? he said.

?However, there is also plenty of religious groups that do want to conduct same sex marriages.

?Some parts of reform Judaism and certainly many liberal Christian groups want to conduct same sex marriages as a matter of their religious perspective.

?They should have that right too and certainly society and the government should not be requiring churches to offer same-sex marriages.

?But we can certainly have civil marriage and we can certainly allow religious bodies that do want to conduct same-sex marriages to go ahead and conduct them. What?s the problem??
